Driver and Transportation Assistant Responsibilities

  • Notify the parent or guardian of the vehicle number and approximate time of pick-up and approximate drop-off.
  • Ensure the overall safe operation of the vehicle. The transportation assistant will help students exhibit safe vehicle riding behavior by ensuring that students stay in their seats and follow vehicle safety rules.
  • Display appropriate care and patience.
  • Be prepared to provide appropriate initial medical intervention and to notify medical responders if needed.
  • Maintain an emergency evacuation plan for the vehicle. Be prepared to effectively and efficiently evacuate the vehicle in the event of an emergency.
  • Understand and maintain the privacy and confidentiality of the families whose children they transport.
  • Complete and submit an incident report to the DFHV and school staff for any student behavior problems.
  • Assist students who need help boarding and leaving the vehicle.
  • Assist with seat belts and booster seats, as needed.

Lost items will be held on the vehicle or returned to the school office. Unclaimed and unlabeled items are donated to charity.
